Blogging at the 'Bucks

Here is the update on my life. I am back full time at South Palm Community Church and while it does hold a lot of challenges I love what I do and who I do it for. It fits right in with where God has gifted me. I am the worship and creative arts assistant. Basically I do what needs to be done for a Sunday morning service.
I also moved into a new place in West Palm Beach. I am loving it. It is a super old building with great big windows and wood floors. Oh, and I have an awesome roommate!
Love her!
And big news!!! My CD is finally about to drop! Praise God! Seriously though this has been such a huge undertaking and the end is in sight. The CD will be released sept. 26 in Miami and sept. 27 in Palm Beach. Let me know you might be able to get the friends and family discount. But maybe not… I mean come on I am a poor starving artist. Support me. Please.
Ok that is all- Hope to see you the 26th or the 27th

peace and love

too cool for school

So I have decided to blog and to actually take it seriously. Now, I am not saying there will only be serious blogs on this page; just that I will be taking a more structured approach to the whole blog business. Ok with that out of the way I would like to give you a run down of my SUPER exciting Friday night.

1. Ate some dinner
2. Went and got Fro-Yo (that frozen yogurt for all you non-hipsters) by myself. Now I am an independent lady and I am all about girl power… but there is something so sad about going into an ice-cream parlor and asking for a small vanilla with EXTRA rainbow sprinkles. Man, I felt pretty low at that moment.
3. Packed my junk and threw it into the middle of my parents living room (they LOVED that) Can I just say I am utterly disgusted by the amount of sheer crap I have. Oh side note- I found my retainer from middle school cleaned it and tried to force it in. Didn’t work. Sorry mom and dad thanks for all the money you spent.
4. Watched the Olympics.
5. Wrote this blog.

You know it is really hard being this cool and popular but someone has to do it.

The Cat Chronicles #1

Now before you proceed on and read this. Let me warn you. What you are about to read might alarm you. But I promise you I really love animals, it's just my family has terrible luck with cats.

Cat Story #1
This particular event happened before the birth of yours truly...
This happened when my brother was a lil' guy, he was probably around the age of 6 or 7. Lil' Joseph (my bro) Had just received a new kitten. He loved this kitten very, very much. One day he decided to go for a bike ride and take his little kitten along with him. So he got his backpack and gently placed lil' kitten in it and off he road. He road with joy and excitement. I wonder if lil' kitten was experiencing the same bundle of emotions- probably not. Well since joseph was just a lil' guy himself he wasn't the most skilled of bike riders. He fell. He fell hard. He fell onto the pavement and so did lil' kitten who broke lil' Joseph's fall. But don't worry lil' kitten survived the accident. He might have had a fractured skull but that is beside the point. Lil' Joseph was sad and scared so he took lil' kitten home to mom- who knew just what to do. She put lil' kitten on the back patio so he could "sleep it off". Lil' kitten might have done some sleep walking because lil' kitten wound up in in the pool. I am sad to say it my friends lil' kitten didn't make it. His nine lives ended too shortly.

I know what you are thinking... Genie that is sick. You are a sick person. Maybe, maybe not but it really happened, and these stories are only going to get worse before they get better.

P.S.- I really do love cats. Really I do!

More to come...

Times Like These...

My weekend... My weekend was amazing. I had quite a busy and involved week and i had the opportunity to stay at my parents house in Miami... Alone. All alone. Now, I am an extreme extrovert so parts of my alone time were hard and a bit drab, but overall it was such a wonderful time to reflect and process some stuff that's been going on in my life.
You know many times we are made to feel guilty when we retreat and get away. Maybe we feel like we are letting others down or like we have obligations to things. But check this out... Jesus did it. He did it quite a few times actually. The savior of the universe took a time out for prayer and reflection. So do it. Find time and go. Maybe not a weekend- maybe just a few hours. Go. Be alone. It may be hard (maybe not) but it might just be worth it.

Peace and Love to all

P.C. Load Letter

I begin this blog with a scene from one of my ALL-TIME favorite movies "Office Space". This scene takes place when Peter is feeling a bit weary, well about a lot of things...

Peter Gibbons: Our high school guidance counselor used to ask us what you'd do if you had a million dollars and you didn't have to work. And invariably what you'd say was supposed to be your career. So, if you wanted to fix old cars you're supposed to be an auto mechanic.

Samir: So what did you say?

Peter Gibbons: I never had an answer. I guess that's why I'm working at Initech.

Michael Bolton: No, you're working at Initech because that question is bull$%$! to begin with. If everyone listened to her, there'd be no janitors, because no one would clean $%$! up if they had a million dollars.

Samir: You know what I would do if I had a million dollars? I would invest half of it in glorious mutual funds and take the other half over to my friend Asadulah who works in securities and

Michael Bolton: Samir, you're missing the point. The point is you're supposed to work out what you
[printer starts beeping]

Michael Bolton: "PC Load Letter"? What the $Q$! does that mean?

I have no fancy words of wisdom. But i do know, million dollars or not I really just want to do what God has me to do. I have no freaking clue what that is (occupation wise), but I think day by day now I am getting to a place where i can fully say this in truth and authority. A dear friend of mine recently told me... "if you lay your head down on the pillow each night with a joy that comes from an unending source [God] then how can you not be happy." So right now i am challenging my self to find joy in God and not in my circumstances- because let's face it, the majority of the world has it a hell of a lot harder than me.
So there it is Peter... if i had a million dollars i would want to find joy in God- good thing i don't need a million dollars to do it- cause it's FREE!
